Luis is a native of Rotorua, and was a member of the 2009 u17 national team that advanced from the group stages at the World Cup in Nigeria. In July of 2010 he made contact with Olé Director Nate Winkel and came down to Wellington for a week long trial. Esteves impressed and Winkel arranged a trial at Portuguese club OS Belenenses where he joined as a member of their U19 team. After his stint in Portugal, Luis returned to New Zealand to train with the New Zealand U20 national team, whilst Nate Winkel arranged for Esteves to join the Portland Timbers U23 PDL team for the 2011 season in the United States. Luis is a strong and technical player with the potential to player at the highest level.
